EuroBLECH 2022: Coherent launches 30kW laser cutting heads

24 Oct 2022

Flat sheet cutting laser head series delivers ultrahigh-power into growing industry sector.

Advanced laser processing solutions developer Coherent has introduced its “next-generation” flat sheet cutting laser head series with ultrahigh-power ratings reaching 30 kW.

The firm, which was acquired by II-VI and then rebranded as Coherent, in July, this week stated that “industrial lasers with output power reaching into the tens of kilowatts are enabling faster cutting of thick sheet metal and driving the demand for cutting heads that match the evolving requirements.”

Coherent has released its next-generation BIMO-FSC3 cutting heads with three product variations, each optimized for one of the following applications: ultrahigh laser power delivery of up to 30 kW; efficient ring-mode laser beam management; and reliable operation in harsh environments.

“The new BIMO-FSC3 cutting head series is based on a field-proven design that we have systematically enhanced over decades to continue to enable the growing and evolving sheet-metal cutting industry,” commented Dr. Karlheinz Gulden, Senior Vice President, Laser Components and Subsystems Business Unit.

Height-sensing capabilities

The BIMO-FSC3-Z-HP handles up to 30 kW of laser power and features height-sensing capabilities and a large depth of focus, which combined achieve high cutting speeds while maintaining high quality and consistency of cutting across very large sheets of metal.

The BIMO-FSC3-L handles up to 20 kW of laser power and features a large numerical aperture that is ideal for ring-shaped laser beams and their associated applications.

The BIMO-FSC3-Z handles up to 12 kW of laser power and is IP-65 certified to withstand the harshest environments.

Coherent will exhibit at EuroBLECH 2022 – the 26th edition of the international sheet metalworking technology exhibition – which takes place in Hanover, Germany, between October 25-28. There, Coherent will showcase the most recent additions to its portfolio of differentiated solutions for materials processing.

Coherent issues environmental, social, and governance (ESG) report

The company has this week also published its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report 2022. The report outlines Coherent’s approach to enhancing sustainability and the global progress it has made in its commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Highlights from the report include the company’s policies on: People (inclusive working practices); Environment (energy, emissions and renewables); and Sourcing (responsible minerals program). The ESG Report 2022 is available on the Coherent website here.

“Given our size and scale, along with our importance to irreversible trends in so many ecosystems, we recognize the significant leadership role we play in building a more sustainable society,” commented Dr. Vincent Mattera, Chair and CEO of Coherent.

“Our ESG report highlights our achievements to date and documents our efforts to align our business strategies with our long-standing mission of enabling the world to be safer, healthier, closer, and more efficient, which is among the highest callings of this age.”
