DuPont Displays of the US and RiTdisplays, a spin-off of RiTEK of Taiwan, have officially opened a commercial production line for high-volume manufacturing of polymer-based organic LED (OLED) modules in Taiwan's hi-tech center of Hsinchu for DuPont Displays to market.
The plant will initially manufacture single-color passive-matrix displays, using polymer-based OLED technology. It will then produce multi- and full-color displays by the end of 2003. IP for the technology was licensed from Cambridge Display Technologies, the initial developer of polymer-based OLEDs.
The facility will have 50 employees expanding to 115. Full production capacity will be 30,000 sheets per month.
DuPont Displays expects to be sending production-line samples to customers for a variety of applications in Q4 of 2002, ramping up to full commercial mass production in 2003.
Said Chet Pribonic, CEO of DuPont Displays: "This is an exciting day for DuPont Displays, RiTdisplay, and the display industry as a whole. The new line is the most advanced, fully automatic polymer-based OLED mass-production line in the world."
Besides jointly installing this polymer-based OLED production line with DuPont Displays, RiTdisplay has an existing single-color small-molecule OLED line and is building a full-color small-molecule line.
