A nuisance inundation of more than 17,000 geese that were causing havoc around Lake Galena in Philadelphia, US, have been cleared using harmless, red laser light beams. Previous attempts, involving dogs, Mylar balloons and fireworks failed to deter the birds, who have been accused of threatening the quality of drinking water in the area and eating USD 300,000 worth of local crops a year. But the laser display could provide the answer.
