AlliedSignal, Coherent, United to develop turbulence sensor for airlines

AlliedSignal Aerospace (Morristown, New Jersey), Coherent Technologies, Inc. (Lafayette, Colorado), and United Airlines (Chicago, Illinois) have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a new sensor for airlines which will detect nearly all types of air turbulence. The agreement includes combinging AlliedSignal's enhanced microwave weather radar with Coherent's infrared radar and United working with Coherent to develop sensor and alerting requirements.
