Boeing (Seattle, Washington) has opened a virtual reality laboratory which allows designers and engineers of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) to evaluate and test the aircraft using three-dimensional modeling data. Lab users can wear a head-mounted display and "data gloves" or can maniuplate the actions of pre-programmed mannequins to evaluate tasks before hardware mockups are produced. The VR lab includes advanced collision detection and other recent technologies.
