Orpington, UK, 1 June 2009 – Michelson Diagnostics (MDL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Florian Bazant-Hegemark as Senior Imaging Scientist. Dr Bazant-Hegemark, known as "Flo", has been working in optical coherence tomography (OCT) in his position as a Clinical Scientist in the biophotonics research group at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust where he co-authored a landmark article in the Biophotonics journal in 2007.
"We are most fortunate that Flo has joined our company," said Jon Holmes, MDL’s CEO. "His practical experience will be invaluable to help customers use the problem-solving power of Multi-Beam OCT. The timing of his appointment reflects the growth of Michelson Diagnostics as the company releases its new handheld VivoSight scanner to the market."
Dr Bazant-Hegemark obtained his PhD for the study of OCT for the management of cervical pre-cancer. He also has an MSc in Medical Diagnostics from Cranfield University, and a Dipl-Ing (equivalent to BSc+MEng) in Food Science and Biotechnology from University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna. Flo will work closely with customers, helping them capture and analyse the data from MDL’s range of Multi-beam OCT scanners, to solve clinical and scientific challenges in diverse applications, ranging from blood-flow imaging and cancer diagnosis in skin, to in-vivo imaging of fruit-fly hearts for genetics research.
"I am very pleased to join Michelson Diagnostics", said Dr Bazant-Hegemark. "It is a young company but growing rapidly, and I want to share in, and contribute to its success."
