Important news for optics.org readers

15 Sep 2006

You'll need to sign in as a member of the optics.org community to read some of the articles posted on the site this week.

From now on, only members of the optics.org community will be able to gain access to all the articles posted on optics.org. Becoming a member is free, will only take a few moments of your time, and will enable us to deliver more content that is relevant to you.

If you access news items via the optics.org website, you'll find that articles displaying the padlock symbol will require member sign-in. Subscribers to our RSS feed or the optics.org newsalert will be also be asked to sign in before viewing any of the restricted articles.

Most subscribers to the optics.org newsalert will already have a username and password that can be used to sign into the site. Your username will most likely be your e-mail address (specifically, the e-mail address to which your newsalert is sent), and a password will have been assigned to you when the site was relaunched at the beginning of the year.

If you don't know your password, you can request a new one from the member sign-in page or by clicking here. The site can also remember your username and password so you don't need to log in every time you visit optics.org.

Once you have signed in, you may be asked to provide some further information about your technical interests and your role in the optics community. You will only be asked for this information once, and it will be used only by optics.org to ensure that our editorial content meets the needs of our members. We guarantee that we will not pass your details onto any third party without your prior permission.

Signing in as a member will also enable you to personalize your newsalerts, post comments on all the articles, and add product, company and event information. You can also edit your preferences at any time.

If you are not yet a member, it is quick, easy and free to register -- you'll just need to specify a username and password and then provide the information requested. Again, you can be sure that we will not release your e-mail address or any other personal details to any other organization without your permission.
