NLight Photonics, a Seattle-based manufacturer of scalable pump lasers for optical networks, has raised USD 44 million in second-round financing. The company says that its low-cost diode sources will be used to pump next-generation optical amplifiers, including Raman devices. Current pump laser technology is seen as a potential bottleneck to the implementation of the new amplifiers.Nlight says that its pump modules will boost data speeds to 40 Gbit/s while simultaneously reducing system costs.Oak Investment Partners and Menlo Ventures led the latest investment round.
