Despite worries over softening demand for optical fibre, Corning says that it will buy Tropel, a New York based optical metrology instrument maker, for USD 190 million.
The deal will comprise USD 60 million cash and 1.95 million Corning shares.
Tropel makes optical components, subsystems and optical metrology instrumentation for wafer, photomask and semiconductor equipment suppliers. The deal should complement Corning's microlithography and optical materials businesses.
