Coherent expands production of Lambda Physik's lasers

Lambda Physik, a subsidiary of Coherent's Laser Group, will double the production capacity for lasers used to make telecom components.

The Fred and Sabre Fred lasers and the L1-FBG excimer laser are important tools in the manufacture of high-performance fiber Bragg gratings for the DWDM market-place.

Coherent estimates that the installed base of Fred and SabreFred lasers for this application will double by the end of 2000. Sales of Fred and SabreFred into this segment are expected to grow by 50-100% per year for the next two to three years.
