Polaroid sells another subsidiary company

17 Jun 2002

As part of Polaroid's move to focus its efforts and resources on its core imaging business, the company has sold its computer monitor anti-glare filter business to 3M's Optical Systems Division.

3M will market Polaroid's computer anti-glare filters under the Polaroid brand name. As part of the transaction, Polaroid will provide computer filter components to 3M. Polaroid will continue to sell polarizer materials for original equipment manufacturer products and for its sunglasses subsidiary, Polaroid Eyewear.

Earlier this year Polaroid sold its fibre laser business. Employees of Polaroid Laser Diodes have told OPTICS.ORG that they expect to hear by the end of the year whether a buyer has been found for their division. Polaroid refused to comment about any future sales but said that the company is looking to sell or form partnerships to maximise the shareholder value of its non-core businesses.
