In the poll of SPIE members, announced today, 2287 (51%) voted in favour of a merger with the OSA. Some 39% of SPIE's members participated in the voting.
The merger plans have already been abandoned following the OSA vote last week, but SPIE says that the results from both societies reveal support for strengthened links between the two bodies. The two are likely to co-operate on future projects to support optical scientists and engineers.
