Laser director resigns amidst controversy

The director of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's National Ignition Facility, which will house some of the world's most powerful lasers, has resigned after a series of anonymous faxes cast doubt on whether he has a PhD.

The New York Times reported that E. Michael Campbell remains an employee on leave from the laboratory.
