TRW delivers solid-state laser to Naval Research Laboratory

TRW, Inc. (Redondo Beach, California) has delivered and installed a solid-state laser brassboard at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory's Chesapeake Bay detachment. The DARPA/Tri-Service Mid IR II Laser has been shown to produce 20 watts of output power at mid-infrared (3.7-4.9 micron) wavelengths and a pulse repetition frequency of 20 kHz. The diode-pumped, solid-state Nd:YAG laser uses a series of parametric oscillators to achieve its final output lasing wavelengths.
