OSI Systems, Inc. (Hawthorne, California) has acquired the Silicon Microstructures, Inc., subsidiary of Exar Corporation (Fremont, California). The $6.5 million purchase of the 7-year-old subsidiary gives OSI a Silicon Valley presence as well as SMI's mechanical sensing structures which provide an interface between the physical and electronic worlds of signal processing. The sale from Exar, which specializes in integrated circuits, to OSI, which designs and manufactures optoelectronic devices, also allows manufacturing of SMI's products to be performed in-house.
