Raytheon receives $8 million contract option for USMC infrared systems

17 Jun 2002

Raytheon Systems Company (Lexington, Massachusetts, United States) has received an $8 million contract option from The Boeing Company (Seattle, Washington, United States) to provide additional infrared systems for the United States Marine Corps V-22 Osprey. The contract calls for production of an additional seven infrared systems, which enable Osprey pilots to see through darkness, smoke, haze, and adverse weather conditions. The V-22 combines components from Raytheon's AN/AAQ-16B infrared system with reflective optics and a 3-5 micron, mid-wavelength infrared sensor and features an MWIR indium-antimonide (InSb) staring focal plane array with 480 x 640 detector elements.
