Northrop/RAFAEL team awarded $18 million sensor pod contract

The team of Northrop Grumman Corporation and RAFAEL has been awarded an initial contract worth nearly $18 million to supply targeting sensor pods to the U.S. Air Force Reserve Command and the Air National Guard. The LITENING pods are self-contained, self-cooled, multisensor laser target designating systems which feature forward-looking infrared (FLIR) charged-coupled device television and laser spot tracker/rangefinder sensors. Initial operational capability is expected in March 2000.
