Consortium formed to establish instrument standards

A consortium of 17 instrumentation users and vendors have formed the Interchangeable Virtual Instruments (IVI) Foundation to create and apply universal software standards so that users can interchange instruments in computer-based test systems without changing the software required to run them. The IVI Foundation will define generic, interchangeable interfaces for common instrument classes including oscilloscope, digital multimeter, functional generator/arbitrary waveform generator, power supply, and switch matrix/multiplexor.
