Nortel, Ericsson plan to standardize fiber amplifier footprint design

17 Jun 2002

The Optoelectronics Division of Nortel and Ericsson Components AB, Opto Electronic Products have announced plans to manufacture optical amplifier components to a standard common footprint design and package interface. The package will use a standadized erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) design and will be manufactured and sold independently by both Nortel and Ericsson. Key features will include rounded corners, side exit fibers, base pins to allow direct mount to the PCB, and maximum power efficiency within the EDFA using 980 nm pumping and heat dissipation throughout the board.
