The European Space Agency has awarded a contract to AMOS for the delivery of the auxiliary telescopes of the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI). Each telescope will have a main mirror of 1.8 meters in diameter and will move on tracks on the top of the Paranal mountain. The contract calls for the design, manufacture, and test of two auxiliary telescopes with an option for a third telescope. Delivery is planned for June 2001 with the first observations expected in early 2002.
