Coherent accepted into Precision Laser Machining Consortium

The Semiconductor Group of Coherent, Inc., has been accepted as a member of the Precision Laser Machining Consortium. The consortium, which was formed in 1993 with the goal to develop a new generation of laser machine tools and processes using diode-pumped solid state lasers, now consists of 24 companies under the administrative leadership of TRW Space and Electronics Group. Coherent Semiconductor Group's charter will be to develop the laser diode material and the packaging processes needed to meet the specifications. Coherent will rely on its aluminum-free InGaAsP active-region material to help develop higher-power long-life laser diode modules.
