The Canadian Space Agency has announced that MacDonald Dettwiler Associates Limited has been selected to construct and manage RADARSAT II, the second Canadian Earth observation satellite. The private-public partnership will include $225 of Canadian government investment and $80 of MacDonald Dettwiler investment and will result in construction of a satellite that will provide data continuity to RADARSAT I users and offer data for new applications tailored to market needs. RADARSAT II, scheduled for launch in 2001, will be the most advanced synthetic aperture radar satellite in the world.
