Eastman Kodak Company's Commercial and Government Systems division has delivered the world's largest optical reflecting surface as a component in the Hobby-Eberly telescope located at McDonald Observatory. The 10-meter primary mirror was constructed for a price of $13.5 million. The primary mirror has a 26-meter radius of curvature; the curvature of 91 segments may not deviate from one another by more than 0.5 mm. The Hobby-Eberly telescope will be able to gather light from objects close to 100 million times fainter than those visible from the unaided human eye.
