The Italian Ministry of Defense signed an agreement with Microdyne Corporation Feb. 18 for a $4.9 million contract to upgrade the instrumentation range sensors at the Italian Sardinia Test Range. The contract, whose work will be performed by Microdyne's Aerospace Telemetry Division, includes radars, telemetry tracking, and optical cameras. When completed the system will enable the test range to track the ground-to-air, multi-stage Aster missile being developed by the Italian and French governments. Work on the contract will begin in March with work expected to be completed in 12 months.
