FDA clears AESOP 3000 endoscopic surgical robot

The Food and Drug Administration granted 510(k) market clearance to a Computer Motion, Inc. surgical robot called AESOP 3000. AESOP (Automated Endoscopic System for Optimal Positioning) incoroprates speech recognition technology to allow surgions to have direct control over the robotic arm using voice commands. The arm is capable of maneuvering and positioning an endoscope to allow the surgeon to view minimally invasive heart surgery procedures.
