The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, Gaithersburg, MD) has awarded a $119,000 contract to Labsphere Inc. (North Sutton, NH) for thedesign and fabrication of a 2.5-m geodesic sphere for photometric flux measurement. Labsphere engineers will coat the high impact thermoform plastic sphere withSpectraflect, a proprietary diffuse white coating specifically designed for photometric applications. Yoshi Ohno of the NIST Optical Technology Division will use thesphere to optimize flux measurement standards for lamps ranging from incandescent to fluorescent.
