Candela granted handpiece patent

17 Jun 2002

Candela Corporation (Wayland, MA) received US Patent #5,599,342 for an elongated spot handpiece used in the laser treatment of linear lesions, such as leg veins, stretch marks, and facial spider veins, and the removal of tattoos.

According to the company, the handpiece has two key advantages: limiting collateral tissue damage and allowing larger sections of lesions to be treated, resulting in a faster and more efficient procedure. The handpiece was introduced to the market in mid-1996 and is currently in use with the company's ScleroPlus, ScleroLaser, and SPTL-1b Vascular Lesion laser systems.
