Alcatel to build transatlantic cable network

Alcatel Submarine Networks (London) was awarded a FF2 billion contract ($400 million) by Cable Co. International for the next-generation transatlantic fiberoptic telecommunications cable system, which will link London and New York. Cable Co. International is a joint venture between MFS Communications Company (Omaha, NE) and Cable and Wireless (London), established to build, operate, and own the system.
