Orbital Sciences Corporation (Dulles, VA) has awarded EDO Electro-Optics (College Point, NY) a $1 million follow-on contract to supply miniature, solid-state infrared Earth horizon sensors for ORBCOMM low-altitude satellites. The spacecraft provide two-way messaging and mobile data communications. The ultimate constellation will consist of 28 satellite, with another eight to be built as spares. Two first two satellites began commercial service in February 1996.
