Laser consortium focuses on commercialization

The Applied Research Laboratory at Pennsylvania State University has started a laser-processing consortium. The organization's goal is to further commercialize advanced laser-processing technology by integrating laser and systems developers, process and material experts, and manufacturers dedicated to moving technology from development to manufacturing.

The R&D; programs currently forming include high-speed laser-beam welding of corrugated-core structural materials, implementation of a laser-cladding process, and improved end-effectors for Nd:YAG lasers having fiberoptic delivery systems.
