China to build $45 million solar space telescope

17 Jun 2002

(Reuter) China plans to spend $45 million on building a solar space telescope, the Xinhua news agency reported. Germany is seeking to cooperate on preparatory research, the agency said. The telescope will be used for research into the magnetic field processes of the sun.

The telescope, with a caliber of one meter, is estimated to cost $45 million, most of which will be spent on rockets and crucial technical backup, it said. China has already allocated $1.5 million to building a sample to be tested in June.
