News of appointments at Fianium, Konarka, Mad City Labs and Endicott Research Group.

Fianium has appointed Colin Seaton as vice-president of sales and marketing. Seaton has more than 25 years' professional experience, 18 of which were spent in senior management positions at Coherent where his focus was on business development and strategic marketing of ultrafast non-fibre lasers. His appointment is intended to maintain the company's growth in industrial markets, including materials processing and biomedical applications.

• Therese Jordan has joined Konarka Technologies as vice-president of business development. Jordan will lead development efforts as the company focuses on commercialization and mass production of its thin-film solar material fabricated from organic photovoltaics. In addition, Jordan will coordinate strategy with Total SA, with whom Konarka recently announced cooperation agreements worth $45m.

Mad City Labs, a US developer of piezo-based nanopositioning stages for imaging and microscopy solutions, has appointed Eric Drier as a senior scientist. Drier was most recently a scientist at University of Wisconsin-Madison. He will be act as liaison with the company's research partners and direct its product development, particularly for the life sciences sector.

Endicott Research Group (ERG), a US-based developer of power solutions for LCD backlights, has created a European office located in Switzerland and appointed Roland Knuchel as European sales manager. Knuchel has already worked with ERG in his capacity as CEO of Milgray Distribution, and his appointment will support the company's growth in the EU.
