ULTRAFAST LASER COATINGS

18 Feb 2014

Altechna offers series of ultrafast laser coatings, including high reflectivity and partial reflective mirrors, anti-reflective coated windows and wavelength separators. Ultrafast mirrors have specifically designed careful selection of coating stacks to combine desired reflectivity value and low group delay dispersion (GDD) value. GDD is used to measure overall chromatic dispersion of light in an optical component. Ultrafast laser coatings offered by Altechna have specified GDD value for coating only; GDD introduced by optical substrate is not included in the value. Altechna offers ultrafast GDD compensated coatings which have near 0 fs2 GDD which means that these coatings will not provide any chromatic dispersion or pulse stretching of an ultrafast laser pulse.

One of the most popular GDD compensated products are ultrafast laser mirrors. These high reflectivity coatings are designed for femtosecond applications to provide an optimized performance at certain wavelength or wavelength range and angle of incidence (AOI). Such coatings are used for external beam manipulation applications where pulse broadening effect is undesirable, especially when pulses are shorter than 100 fs. Ultrafast mirrors are intended for Ti:Sapphire, Yb:KGW, Yb:KYW or other lasers working in femtosecond regime. Altechna provides standard mirrors for most popular femtosecond laser wavelengths and, of course, custom made coatings are available upon request.

Characteristics:

  • High reflectivity: R>99.8 % @ designed laser line wavelengths
  • High damage threshold
  • Low scattering and absorption losses.
  • Ultra-low group delay dispersion (GDD)
