VPItransmissionMaker WDM

17 May 2006

VPItransmissionMaker WDM accelerates the design of new photonic systems including link and all-optical networks, and allows upgrade and component substitution strategies to be developed for existing plants.

Multiple signal representations and the sophisticated simulation scheduler enable efficient modeling of arbitrary WDM systems. The unique Sample Mode supports bidirectional interactions on picosecond timescales for filter design, and the Block Mode gives accurate and efficient simulation of multichannel WDM systems. Parameterized signals, noise bins and distortions allow efficient modeling of complex systems. Applications - Compare upgrade strategies for dense WDM using Raman and hybrid amplification - Choose components for coarse WDM with efficient multiple-frequency band simulations - Evaluate risks in component choice by considering the details of systems design - Mitigate PMD and CD effects using optical compensators and electrical equalizers - Evaluate different modulation formats such as DPSK, DQPSK, Duobinary, CSRZ, CSRZ-DPSK, RZ-DQPSK, and Manchester coding - Investigate power transients in EDFAs and Raman amplifiers and test countermeasures - Evaluate crosstalk in DWDM metro networks - Simplify the architecture of PON networks by using OSSB subcarrier multiplexed data - Extend the transmission distance of 160 Gbit/s OTDM systems using optical regeneration - Upgrade the backbone network with 16n x 2.5, 4n x 10, n x 40 RZ/CRZ/DPSK systems - Develop Ultra Long Haul amplified systems and submarine systems - Maximize the capacity of the fiber plant using bidirectional transmission - Investigate alternative applications of photonic technology such as sensors and signal processing - Investigate impairments in free-space optic systems Evaluate new aggregation formats such as optical CDMA
