17 May 2006 VPItransmissionMaker Cable Access allows the benefits and limitations of optical access systems to be explored. It supports the study of mixed analog and digital access technologies, microwave photonics applications and Radio-over-Fiber systems. Applications
- Investigate mixed analog/digital transmission formats, including upstream path options.
- Investigate transmitter performance needs, including laser clipping, memory effects, and external modulation schemes
- Quantify fiber-induced signal degradation from dispersion, FWM, SPM, XPM, Raman, SBS, reflections and source interactions
- Evaluate upstream-data DWDM systems using frequency stacking or high-speed digital-analog conversion
- Identify critical design parameters including laser chirp, amplifier gain-tilt and noise, path loss, and filtering performance
- Present data as waveforms, eye diagrams, constellations and spectra. Use industry standard measurement tools for analysis of Q, BER, CTB, CSO, 3-IM and SNR
- Develop antenna-remoting and radar systems, using optical mm-wave signal generation, up conversion, beam-forming and mixing.
- Evaluate new schemes for Radio-over-Fiber systems carrying wireless formats such as WiFi, WiMax, UMTS, CDMA
