Philips in Holland has announced an agreement with Korean electronics manufacturer Hyunwoo McPlus to bring liquid-crystal-on-silicon high-definition TV to market. Under the agreement, Philips will supply light engines based on its single-panel technology - Engaze - which Hyunwoo will integrate into its new 52 inch rear-projection TV.

Sony has made an arrangement to receive stable supplies of PDPs from NEC. Sony had planned to invest in a joint PDP venture between Fujitsu and Hitachi two years ago. But Sony cancelled the plan last month, saying it will remain a PDP purchaser.

DisplaySearch's latest forecasts see the large-area (more than 10 inch) TFT LCD market rising 55% in 2002 to 70.2 million units, 7% higher than the company's previous forecast. With prices increasing through most of the year, large-area TFT LCD revenues are projected to rise 79% this year to $20.3 billion.
