DuPont Displays and Three-Five Systems are to invest USD 1.5 million in OLED displays.
Three-Five Systems, a designer and manufacturer of liquid-crystal displays, has joined forces with DuPont's displays arm, Dupont Displays, to design and manufacture organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays. Based at Three-Five's headquarters in Arizona, US, the alliance will target a worldwide market and, according to a Three-Five Systems spokesperson, will initially invest USD 1.5 million. The displays will be manufactured and assembled in Asian facilities.
"We will market these revolutionary polymer OLED-display modules to OEM's that supply everything from cell phones to automotive displays and beyond," said Chester Pribonic, president and chief executive of DuPont Displays.
The venture will focus on glass-substrate, passive-matrix polymer OLED displays, but is also aimed at marketing and selling small molecule-based passive-matrix OLED displays. Shipments will start at the end of next year.
