Colorado MicroDisplay changes its corporate identity

17 Jun 2002

The US-based display company is now called Zight Corporation and has a new CEO and board members.

Colorado MicroDisplay, a developer of high-resolution, full-colour microdisplay solutions, has changed its name to Zight Corporation. The new name and corporate identity will be displayed at the Society for Information Display (SID) conference and exhibition starting on 4 June in San Jose, California.

Zight Corporation has also named Mark Willner chairman of the board and chief strategy officer and has promoted Kenney Roberts to president and CEO. The company says that these changes "signal Zight's effective transition from an entrepreneurial to an operational-focused company".

The Zight identity was developed by Lexicon Branding, the same agency that created the names Pentium for Intel Corporation and PowerBook for Apple Computer. Kenney Roberts explained: "[The name] Zight is memorable and indicative of the speed and high-performance associated with our microdisplays."

Other changes at Zight include the addition of Sherel Horsley and Stuart Chapman to the board of directors. Sherel Horsley is a Texas Instruments veteran and, until his retirement, was the key business and marketing executive of the DLP Product Group. Stuart Chapman joins Zight from the venture capital firm 3i.

Zight's microdisplays are used in various consumer and industrial applications in the mobile computing, mobile communications, entertainment, gaming, and digital imaging markets. The company has a lodged patent application for breakthrough liquid crystal on silicon (LcoS) microdisplay technologies that enable the delivery of rich, high-resolution, full-colour graphical and video content.
