LightPath snaps up Geltech

17 Jun 2002

Albuquerque, New Mexico-based LightPath Technologies is to buy optical component manufacturer Geltech of Orlando, Florida.

Under the USD 27.5 million deal, Geltech and its 104 employees will continue to operate from the company's existing facilities in Orlando and Auburn, California.

Geltech manufactures precision-molded aspherical optics, which couple laser diode sources to fibers or waveguides for telecom applications. The company also makes sol-gel waveguides and recently launched a range of diffractive gratings and lens arrays for DWDM multiplexing - a market esimated to be worth USD 3.3 billion by 2003.

LightPath will also assume Geltech's USD 1.7 million debt.

Geltech chief operating officer Jean-Luc Nogues said: "There are no doubts that the combination of technologies, talents, expertise and resources will bring spectacular results."
