UK camera distributors swap companies

17 Jun 2002

Recent months have seen much movement in the distributors for imaging hardware products in the UK. At the IPOT 2000 exhibition in Birmingham, UK, this week, Alrad Imaging announced that it is the new distributor for Thomson CSF's 'linescan' cameras. These products were previously sold through Vortex Vision.

Geoff Smith of Alrad compared the latest movements to the children's party game 'musical chairs'. "We were selling Dalsa's products. Dalsa decided to move to Pinnacle Vision." When Dalsa changed distributors, Basler, who previously sold its products through Pinnacle Vision, swapped to Vortex Vision, completing the triangle.

Smith says that there have been similar shifts among other European distributors in the industry recently.

Alrad bundles Thomson's camera with its framegrabber and cards. It hopes to expand its link with the company in the future.
