Standard MEMS Inc, of Burlington, MA has completed the purchase of the fiber-optic sensor manufacturer, Blue Road Research Inc, of Fairview, OR.
"We will be marrying MEMS technology and fiberoptic technology into sensor devices," commented Diego Cisneros, of Standard MEMS. He anticipates that a new product developed through the combination of fiber-optic and MEMS technologies would be manufactured at the Standard MEMS facility in San Bernardino, California.
Standard MEMS designs and manufactures microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) in 4, 6 and 8 inch wafers and packaged MEMS devices. Blue Road's sensor applications include the monitoring of the structural health of bridges, buildings, tunnels and aircraft, and Standard MEMS plans to utilize those sensors to provide new safety standards in civil engineering, particularly in earthquake prone areas.
Blue Road Research founder and CEO Eric Udd will remain with Standard MEMS and will manage the research and development of all of the company's fiberoptic products as well as assuming responsibility for corporate and government development projects. Standard MEMS will expand the Blue Road facilities to provide for commercialization of several products.
