Laser Power sells microlaser business to Melles Griot

17 Jun 2002

Melles Griot has bought Laser Power's Microlaser Group, which makes blue, green and near-infrared diode-pumped solid-state laser systems.

The sale, which included the current assets of Laser Power's microlaser business and future royalty payments of up to USD 2.7 million, will allow Laser Power to pay off debts and to extend its core expertise in optics and thin-film coatings through internal expansions and targeted acquisitions.

The addition of Laser Power Microlaser's products will allow Melles Griot to offer systems with powers to three watts at 532 nanometres, shorter wavelengths to 457 nanometres and robust solid-state technology.

The manufacture and development of Laser Power's microlaser products has been transferred to Melles Griot Laser Group's new and wholly dedicated 100,000 square foot laser manufacturing facility in Carlsbad, CA, US.
