HP's new name is announced

Agilent Technologies will be the new name for the non-computing half of Hewlett-Packard. The new company includes the test and measurement, chemical analysis, healthcare and semiconductor groups of Hewlett-Packard.

Hewlett-Packard split into two companies in March 1999 and the computing division retained the original name. The name of the other part was announced last week but will not formally change until November 1999.

Agilent Technologies will be headquartered in Palo Alto, California, on the site of the original Hewlett-Packard headquarters. It has 43 000 employees in more than 40 countries.
