JDS Fitel and Uniphase merge

JDS Fitel, a Canadian manufacturer of products for fibre optic communications, will merge with Uniphase, a US company that designs, develops and markets fibre optic telecommunications components, modules and lasers.

The shareholders of the two companies voted in favour of the merger on 28 June and it is scheduled to take place in early July. The new company will be known as JDS Uniphase Corporation.
