Evaluation kits of light-emitting polymers for displays are to be made available over the internet in the near future. The kits will come with access to technical support, information and the chance to talk to engineers.
They will be supplied by the Polymer Display Alliance (PODIA). The alliance was formed by CDT, the UK company which owns the fundamental patents to PPV, and Covion, a joint venture by Zeneca and Aventis of the Hoechst group to commercialise the polymers.
Podia aims to accelerate technology transfer to companies looking to develop products based on PPV. It intends to supply polymer materials, device architecture and process know-how as well as device prototyping.
So far, CDT has promoted light-emitting polymers by developing relationships with companies such as DuPont (joint development of flexible substrates for large displays), Philips (licence for low content displays), DELTA (licence for high content displays), Seiko-Epson (joint development for high information displays), Hewlett-Packard (license and joint development programme for small displays) and Hoechst (license for materials supply).
Covion has invested more than six years of research and development into the materials including supporting Philips in getting products to market.JB
