Hitachi, Fujitsu establish joint venture for large-screen plasma display panels

Fujitsu Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan) and Hitachi Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan) have agreed to establish a joint venture, Fujitsu Hitachi Plasma Display Limited, which will develop, manufacture, and market large-screen plasma display panels. The two companies will transfer their large-screen PDP operations to the new joint venture company, which will acquire the Miyazaki plant of Kyushu Fujitsu Electronics, Ltd. and increase that plant's production capacity from 10,000 units a month to 70,000 units by the year 2001. Fujitsu Hitachi Plasma Display Limited, which will be headquarted in Kawasaki City, will begin operations in July.
