L-3 Wins Ground Control Contract for Quickbird Imaging Satellite

L-3 Communications Telemetry & Instrumentation (San Diego, California) has been awarded a $2 million contract from EarthWatch (Longmont, Colorado) to provide the ground control segment for EarthWatch's QuickBird high-resolution imaging satellite. L3 will provide a real-time system including the narrowband telemetry and control system and the real-time command and control system. QuickBird, which will collect panchromatic and multispectral images over a broad area, will be launched in late 1999.
