Perceptics to supply Customs, INS with license plate recognition systems

Perceptics Corporation (Knoxville, Tennessee) has been awarded a contract funded by the U.S. Customs Service and the Immigration and Naturalization Service to supply automated vehicle license plate recognition systems at approximately 600 border lanes. The systems, which consist of a camera and strobes and computer equipment and software, locate the license plates, read the letters and numbers, and automatically transmit the data to Customs' central computer system. The first phase of the contract, the borders in the southwestern United States, will be a 1 1/2 year effort.
