Hughes selected to build PAS-6B for PanAmSat

PanAmSat Corp. has selected Hughes Space and Communications Company to build the PAS-6B Atlantic Ocean Region satellite. The satellite, which is scheduled to be delivered to PanAmSat later this year, will provide direct-to-home television transmissions in South America. Its 7-kilowatt payload will include 32 active Ku-band transponders powered by a combination of 105-watt and 140-watt traveling wave-tube amplifiers.
