Hughes selects Allant to build GOES structures

Hughes Space and Communications Company has selected Alliant Techsystems to design and fabricate composite optical benches and yokes for two Geostatinoary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES). The satellites, which will be launched between 2001 and 2003, will provide meteorological measurements to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration as well as to meteorologists, academicians, and countries around the world. Alliant's graphite composite materials used to fabricate the benches and yokes ensure against dimensional changes over a 500-degree temeprature span.
